Shelter In Place
Jelly Bean Junction
Learning Centers, Inc.
Dear Parents,
Along with surrounding counties and local schools, we have implemented a
“Shelter-in-Place” procedure to protect your children and our staff from the
threat of a chemical or biological emergency. A “Shelter-in-Place” procedure
is simply a protective action in which people remain in one central interior
place, with all doors and windows locked and sealed, until it has been
announced by local authorities that the emergency has ended. This procedure
was developed by national and local emergency agencies. If you wish to read
more about this procedure, please see page 39 of the Cincinnati Bell Directory.
In the event of a chemical or biological emergency, please follow these
guidelines:
Do not come to the center; as tempting as this may be, you will be putting
yourself at risk to possible chemical contamination.
Do not call the center. Our staff and your child will be in a “Sheltered-in-
Place” and will not be able to come to the phone.
Tune into your radio and television for announcements. Our website, www.
jellybeanjunctions.com will have updates posted also. We will do our best to
notify our parents of when to pick children up through the media and our
website.
With today being the first day of Spring, as well as tornado season, we have
decided to do both a Tornado and "Shelter in Place" drill tomorrow, Friday
March 21, 2003. Hopefully this will help ease any concerns the children may
have regarding any such chemical and biological emergency, explaining to
them that we want to be prepared as with a tornado drill. Although we hope
this will be an unnecessary step, we feel it is important to be prepared. We
will do all that we can to comfort and reassure your children during any such
drill or actual emergency. We thank you for your cooperation of these
procedures. Please remember they will be implemented with your child’s
safety in mind.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Roby
